Commenting can send a wide variety of messages. They can be both negative and encouraging. In my opinion good comments should have a compliment and specifically tell what, and why they liked it. Commenters should also say how it improves the writing. This tells the writer to put the addition in other post which can ultimately improve his/her writing.

One example I saw of this excellent type of commenting was with Drew. “Colum, nice job on using very descriptive words. This makes your topic sentence very strong. Colum you are friendly. Nice Job!” Drew pointed out what he liked and how it improved my writing. I then put this advice into action and added it to other post.
